The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is the main international standards organization for the World Wide Web (abbreviated WWW or W3).

Webpages can be checked to see that they follow the defined guidelines established by the W3C - these pages are said to be W3C compliant.

Benefits of compliance

  • Webpages will tend to display more consistently across browsers.
  • Webpages will tend to continue working as browsers are updated or new ones released.
  • Compliance is good practice for Accessibility and SEO.
