What does it do?
Count the number of pages, and list them.
Why is it important?
Sites with too few spiderable pages will underperform relative to sites with more content in search engines. If SEO is a priority, you should always aim to have at least 20 pages of content. A score of 10 is awarded by default - sites with less than 20 pages are awarded progressively lower scores.
When the number of pages is very low (e.g. 1-3 pages) it usually signifies a problem, such as:
- The site cannot be spidered.
- The site is unavailable.
In these cases Sitescore will explain the situation and suggest you check the spider.
Example results
Note that in this example web addresses have been concealed.
How is it measured?
Sitescore counts each web address it tests, and displays them in a sortable table.
Note that if a test is limited to a fixed number of pages, it won't find more pages than that limit. E.g. if a site has 500 pages, but you only test 100, it will only report 100 pages. In these instances, it does explain this is the case.
If a site has less than 20 pages, it is scored proportionally less than a perfect 10. A site with one page would receive a score of 1 out of 10.
Technical explanation
The number of pages is determined by what Sitescore can spider. See the spider for details.
Common problems
If you believe the number of pages is incorrect, you should review the spider.
How to improve this score
If your website has less than 20 pages, we would suggest creating more. This is not a requirement for an excellent site, but sites with too few pages rarely score as well in search engines, or retain visitor interest for long. Usually sites with less than 20 pages are simply new, under construction or insubstantial.
How to use this test effectively
This test should nearly always be reporting a perfect 10, and a reasonable number of pages. If this is not the case, you should investigate and follow the guidance above.
