How do you define a 'website'?

Where a particular feature is limited to a fixed number of websites, a website can be defined as:

A collection of webpages from one or more domains, tested as a single whole unit.

There is no limit to the number of pages (other than that imposed by the current version of SiteRay you are using). For example, any of these could be classified as a website:

  • The Google UK website (www.google.co.uk)
  • The services part of the Google UK website (www.google.co.uk/services)
  • The Google UK, US and French websites combined (www.google.com, www.google.co.uk and www.google.fr)
  • A single webpage - the Google UK homepage (www.google.com)

Effectively distinctions in domain names and pages are irrelevant - you should think of a website as the unit you wish to test.

Why is a 'penalty' being applied to one of my scores?

Who hosts SiteRay? / Can we host SiteRay?

SiteRay is nearly always offered as a hosted service, i.e. we provide hosting. This is generally the most cost effective solution as we are able to make best use of shared resources over many SiteRay clients.

However Enterprise clients may choose to host the application themselves if they wish – please contact us for details.

Why is there an ongoing license?

Because SiteRay tests online technologies which are always changing, we supply the tool with entitlement to ongoing upgrades. These ensure results are always relevant and that the tool is not dependant upon third parties, who change their behaviour over time. Examples include:

  • Browsers: new web browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer 8)
  • Spelling / languages: updated dictionaries
  • Search Engines: change in format of search engines, new search engines
  • Technical: new standards (XHTML 2.0, HTML 5.0, CSS 3.0 etc)
  • Compliance: changes in disability legislation

The cost of the license fee includes entitlement to all of these upgrades as and when they become available.

Can you test secure websites?

SiteRay supports testing pages using SSL (i.e. prefixed https://). Support also exists for logging into websites using a username / password combination.

On request we can develop customised login for more advanced forms of access (for example, most banks request the nth letter of a password, date of birth etc).
